What has your Web HOST done for you lately?

I wrote a blog post recently titled, “what has your website done for you lately?”. Just as good of a question is: What has your web host done for you lately?

A tech nightmare happened this week that reminded me of the importance of a good web host.

And illustrated how a crappy web host can really hurt.

Not all hosts are created equal.

I sent out an email to my clients today about the importance of backing up your site and the problems that you may face if you ever need to restore it.

I did a test of the process by installing the backup plugin that I recommend, creating my backup and restoring all of my files and database, which means completely writing over my website.

This was risky to do… . If something went wrong- my whole site would have been down, and it could have meant hours getting it resolved.  But I wanted to do a run through of the process. Better my site goes down than a clients!

Although it’s a clumsy and cumbersome process- it was a success. When i clicked “View my restored website”, I held my breath and was relieved to see my complete website back up with no problems whatsoever.

This is the same process if you want to move your website to a different host.

I will be adding this service to our offerings.
